INTENT Our intent is to promote the enjoyment of art and to develop the skills needed to produce it. Each child will produce creative work, exploring their ideas (for example - in sketchbooks) and developing their imaginations. They will develop their skills in drawing, painting and other art, craft and design using a range of materials and techniques. We will help them to evaluate and analyse creative works, using the language of art, craft and design. We will provide opportunities to study contemporary, historical, cultural and religious art and artists. Implementation Lessons vary in each year group depending upon the topic being covered, within that half term. Within the lessons, the children develop their skills in drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, sculpture and digital art. The children will have opportunities to find out about artists or styles of art. They can collect ideas and draw or sketch. They can try out different techniques and apply them to their final piece of work. The children will use their sketch books to sketch and record ideas they have worked on. During the process, and when work is complete, they should evaluate their own work and that of others. The children will also experience art first hand and work with artists, during visits to galleries, such as The Turnpike. Impact- Art and Design broadens the range of opportunities we provide for our children to achieve. It will contribute to the development of our children aesthetically, spiritually, intellectually and socially. The practical skills of the children will improve over time as they experience, and go back to practice what they have learned. |
